Current information about the shore excursions

City tour Koblenz incl. Fortress Ehrenbreitstein by foot (39 € p.P.)
The trip starts with a tour of the imperial city in the "German corner". Koblenz is one of the oldest cities in Germany. The trip takes you past the historic town hall with the "Schängelbrunnen" (fountain) and many other interesting points of the city. For example you will see the "Coin Master House called "Alte Münze"(old coin) which is located on "Münzplatz"(coin square). At this location is the birthplace of Prince Metternich too. Also, worth seeing is the "Balduinbrücke", the second oldest, still maintaining bridge that crosses the river Moselle. The bridge dates from the 14th century. Then it goes up with the cabin cable car - to the "Ehrenbreitstein" fortress, which is situated on a 118-m high mountain spur. The inclined lift (opened in 2011) in the District of "Ehrenbreitstein" connects the Mill Valley with the East side of the fortress. Be mesmerized by a breath-taking panoramic view of the city. The return by cable car from the fortress and the way back to the ship is individual.

City tour Mannheim with castle by bus / foot (45 € p.P.)
The "Friedrichsplatz" is located east of the city centre. In its center is the landmark Mannheim's, the 60-meter-high "Wasserturm" (Water tower). It was build 1889 in Neo-Baroque-style and is crowned by the 3,50 meter tall statue of Amphitrite. Starting at the "Friedrichsplatz" the "Planken" (planks, located west of the pedestrian zone) will lead you to the central square Mannheim's, the Parade court. It originally served the elector for troop parades. In its center is the "Grupello-Pyramide". The Market square is located north of the parade court by the pedestrian zone "Breite Straße"(wide street) in the center of the "Unterstadt". In its center you will find the "Brunnendenkmal"(fountain monument) from the year 1719. Another highlight of the excursion is the Mannheim Castle. It was built in Mannheim between 1720 and 1760 under the regency of the Electors Karl Philipp and Karl Theodor and was the residence of the Electors of the Palatinate.

City tour Strasbourg by bus / foot (45 € p.P.)
Strasbourg is the capital of the "Alsace" region, located in the East of France. The river Ill, a tributary of the Rhine, surrounds Strasbourg's well intact historical City center "Grande Île", which has been declared to World cultural heritage side in 1988. Very popular is the so called "Tanner district" in the city district "La Petite France" on the shoreline of the Ill and some of its channels with its picturesque half-timbered houses, small streets and the typical roof dormers. Landmark of the city is the roman and gothic Strasbourg Minster built from 1176 to 1439 build. Dominated by its west facade, you will see along the Minster Square countless, some four- or five story high half-timbered houses in the Alemannic Southern style. The astronomical clock and the "pillar of the Angels", the pulpit, the baptismal font, which are considered excellent examples of Occidental art swallow's nest organ are among his most famous pieces you will find here. (Explanations to the Strasbourg Cathedral made by the tour guide only while still outside - the inside visit will be done on their own.)

Excursion Alsace and Colmar (39 € p.P.)
The Alsace Wine Route (French: Route des Vins d'Alsace) is one of the oldest tourist routes in France. It was created in 1953 and covers 170 km through the Alsace wine region. The Alsace Wine Route runs in a strict north-south direction at the foot of the Vosges mountains and thus on the western edge of the Upper Rhine plain. It thus forms the southern continuation of the German Wine Route, which has been designated for 18 years longer. The vineyards, with a total area under cultivation of 14,500 ha, lie on both sides of the road on a strip of land one to three kilometres wide. One of the largest towns along the Wine Route is Colmar. The city is famous for its well-preserved architectural heritage from six centuries and for its museums, including the Unterlinden Museum with the Isenheim Altar. The main church of the town is the Gothic Martinsmünster with its 71-metre high tower.

Excursion Rheingau and Eberbach Monastery (49 € p.P.)
The bus takes you from the pier in Wiesbaden through the Rheingau. The cultural landscape of the Rheingau extends as a wavy hilly area on the right bank of the Rhine from Walluf to Lorchhausen. The Rheingau as a cultural landscape has numerous sights to offer, including Eberbach Monastery. The film "The Name of the Rose" was shot there, among other things. With impressive buildings, especially from the 12th to 14th centuries, the monastery is the most important medieval architectural masterpiece in Hesse. During the guided tour we learn a lot of interesting facts about the life of the Cistercian monks in the monastery. Before returning to the ship we have some free time.
